All Things Metal

In case you hadn't caught this before. I saw the metal documentary, Metal: A Headbanger's Journey, on VH1 a while back and this is the anticipated follow-up entitled "Global Metal". Check it out when you have an hour and a half to kill kill kill.

Rinse 06

Just bought this today. It's well worth it. I have to admit that I never like Plastic Man or his new moniker, Plastician, but his recent Rinse FM podcasts and now this have turned me onto his music. Buy the album here!

Super Champion's video ALMOST looks as metal as our Metal Race 2 this year. I didn't see any blood rookies!

OM Gebel Barkal

When Sleep broke up and formed OM, the world became a happier and more sedated place. When OM broke up a few months back, I was distraught. Conference of the Birds and Pilgrimage are two of my all time favorite albums. Now OM is back with a new drummer and SubPop has their new 7" entitled Gebel Barkal. It's short at 9.3 minutes, but it gives you a good taste of what's to come. Really enjoying the dubbed-out Version track.

Dubstep Bangers

I was reminded yesterday by a blog reader that I haven't talked about music in a bit. It's started to cool down here in NYC and I've gotten back into listening to Dubstep on my morning rides to work. After downloading some of the Rinse.fm pod casts, I found a few key tracks that I'm excited about hearing more often! Plastician "Kosheen Guilty Remix" Caspa "Where's my Money?" Skream "Memories of a 3rd Base" and from out in left field, Chasing Shadows "Dr. Sin" this track gets me so hyped. I'm familar with their Flashing Lights track off some of the Dubstep Allstars cds, but this track is so dialed.

Count Thy Buttons

Jen at Gnarlitude insists this is one art show not to miss, and I believe her. It will be Patrick Griffin's first solo show and the concept sounds pretty damn amazing. Apparently there will be a giant wall resembling a leather jacket with dozens of oversized buttons on them— pretty cool right? If art isn't enough to drag your butt outside, maybe you'll be into the special performance by TV Baby (members of A.R.E. Weapons). It all goes down this Thursday night from 6-9pm at the Journal Gallery in WillyB. 168 N 1st St.

R.I.P. K-Swift

Baltmore DJ K-Swift (a.k.a. Khia Edgerton) died this morning due to a swimming pool accident in her hometown of Baltimore, MD, it has been reported. The 28-year-old artist, who has often been considered the Queen of the Baltimore club scene, rose to prominence as Female Mix Show Coordinator on Baltimore's 92Q Jams radio station. She was also a member of the Violator-All Star DJ Coalition and a member of the female group Murda Mamis. Growing up in Baltimore, I'm very familiar with K-Swift, having tuned in to her live club sets on the radio every week, jammin in my car like noone was watching. With the popularity of Baltimore Club spreading like wildfire recently, K-Swift has gone from a hometown name to a globally recognized artist. She will forever be the club queen of Baltimore.

Before They Sucked

Cave In was one of my favorite bands. To this day, Ebola is one of my favorite hardcore tracks. Until Your Heart Stops has to be one of the heaviest played CDs in my collection. I've started listening to it again recently.

At the Gates Reunion

Last night was the At the Gates reunion show at Irving Plaza here in NYC. I've been listening to this band since Highschool and I never thought I'd get the chance to see them perform live in the States. They played a stellar show. I was blown away... For all who missed it, here's Under a Serpent Sun. Sorry the sound is so shitty... edit: Here's the setlist... I think. Someone let me know if I missed anything: 01. Slaughter Of The Soul 02. Cold 03. Terminal Spirit Disease 04. Raped By The Light Of Christ 05. Under A Serpent Sun 06. Windows 07. World Of Lies 08. The Burning Darkness 09. The Swarm 10. Forever Blind 11. Nausea 12. The Beautiful Wound 13. Suicide Nation 14. All Life Ends 15. Need 16. Blinded By Fear 17. The Flames Of The End At The Gates "Under a Serpent Sun" from John Prolly on Vimeo.
