Lance Armstrong's Living the Dream

Yeah, sure, he's a Tour de Drugs champion and a cancer survivor, but now he's a real man. That's right. The uni-testicle athlete has been caught making out with Ashley Olsen. Way to go creep!

Recipe for Hate

I mean, COME ON. Why the hell are you gonna rip off a mid 90's punk bands best album? Subware, a NYC-based streetwear label has used the famous dober-businessman graphic from Bad Religion's Recipe for Hate album. It wouldn't bother so much if this wasn't atypical of their normal graphic stylings. I guess fat caps, paint drips, barb wire and graffiti is getting tired. Who woulda known? I'm also slightly annoyed that they probably tried to pull a fast one on their "fanbase" who has never heard of Bad Religion... Image via Digital Gravel.

Bike Kill Fireworks Bike

My girl Trudy shot this badass video of the fireworks bike at yesterday's 5th annual Bike Kill. Black Label Bicycle Club throw this party every fall. It's essentially a huge orgy of Frankenstein bikes coming together at a critical terminus to destroy themselves. Or something like that. A simple Youtube search can turn up countless videos of these crazy machines. She's also uploaded some shots to her Flickr account as well...

Call me crazy but...

I kinda like these new Asics that Alife just dropped.

Insanity!

Turbo Bio

So about a year ago I grabbed a Turbo Bio saddle off ebay because I liked the black and white stripes. It sat in my closet awaiting the appropriate bike to mount. I put it on my Marinoni and still ride it today. Sure it's got a few scratches on it, but all in all, it's in pretty good shape. When I saw another one on ebay, I figured that I'd watch it and see if I could snag it. There's nothing wrong with having a stockpile of saddles! Look at what it ended at... I even contacted the seller and they told me that the buyer paid with an instant transfer! Insanity!

New Bike Day!

So I sold the KHS Aero Track and two pairs of Nikes on ebay and in return I got a slick white Pista Concept and a powder-coat budget. My boy Carleton was selling his bike and I've wanted a Concept to run as my daily / trick bike. Getting it powder-coated candy pink!

the Peel Sessions

In an attempt to concentrate on tracktricks, I've organized an event I'm calling The Peel Sessions. This informal gathering of fixed-gear riders will be a means for people to share their skill palettes. Whether you need help with skids, trackstands, wheelies or any other 'track-specific' trick, there will be people there to help you. We'll be there at 8pm. Each week we'll have a new flier, also influenced by the famous John Peel Sessions artwork from the BBC's library. This week's homage is the New Order cover. More pics after the jump!

Rat Pack Hustle Recap

Last night, up in Riverbank State Park [145th on the West Side], the second week of the Rat Pack Hustle took place. Rat Pack is a night filled with sprinting, beer drinking and getting to know our fellow NYC riders. It's mostly Track / Fixed because of the nature of the race, but a single-speed guy got 3rd place last night. southside We met at the base of the Williamsburg bridge and rode up the West Side Bikepath to 145th street. Riding under the buttresses of the WSH was really crazy. Massive steel structures loom overhead like some alien craft from a sci-fi flick. 'Noni proper Once we got to our destination, Dan taped off two lines and we started warming up. Dan, who organized this week's event told us since more people showed up this time, rather than going with a head to head elimination format, we'd just go in pairs and the rider with the best time would continue on. me warming up Josh and I went first. I think my time was 16.86"... About 12 more people went, narrowing it down to the final rounds. John G and I went again and it was the closest race of the evening. Because I was at 48:16, It took me a while to get my cadence up. Once it was up, I pulled ahead. Barely. Dan said my front wheel crossed the line as John's front wheel was directly behind mine. The final race was down to Kyle and Quacker. Kyle's fast, but Quacker [who's a senior in highschool] whooped up on the MASH rider. Quacker won this week, Kyle came in second and Andres came in third. quacker, ftw! Good times! Takuya Sakamoto for Gshock

Takuya Sakamoto is a Japanese photographer affiliated with Pedalmafia and various other companies. He's so highly regarded in Japan that Jeff Staple hooked him up with a pretty expensive panoramic camera to shoot the Battle For Brooklyn this past weekend. Sakamoto was shooting portraits outside the MASH premier in NYC last week and these two pics have made it to the Pedalmafia gallery...

Battle 4 Brooklyn Photocollagraphy

One of the few pics I took at the 12 hour long Battle for Brooklyn. My ass is so sore right now. I didn't even want to ride into work this morning, but I sucked it up and enjoyed the brisk 50 degree air. The rest of the pictures are on my Flickr account.

You big dummy

When I first saw the new SONY Bravia commercial, I was amazed. These commercials are all done without the aid of computers. Everyone remembers the bouncing ball commercial, where they dumped thousands of colored bouncy balls down the streets of San Fran and who could forget the exploding paint coming out of the buildings in their second commercial? Well, this one clearly takes the cake... off another artist's plate. The LA-based art team, Kozyndan, who are known for their panoramic of playdoh bunnies in NYC and other 'bunny-themed' artwork have posted the following letter on their Flickr account... Its hard to think that people at Passion Pictures did not have this early panoramic of ours in mind when they created this new spot for the SONY Bravia line. To add insult to injury, someone representing Passion Pictures contacted us almost two years ago asking to see samples of our work (including this panoramic) as they were interested in working with us. We sent them samples and then heard nothing from them ever again. (It should be noted though, that the more likely culprit is the ad firm who hired Passion Pictures, Fallon) Still, its a clever ad. Sony, FTL

MASH NYC Premier

MASHattan was a blast! I’ve been waiting on this ONE film to come out for the past two years or so. MASH is a film by Gabe Morford and Mike Martin, two esteemed skate photographers with a need for speed and the will to chase after a bunch of brakeless and gearless fixed gear riders through the hills of SF. There's so much to say about the film, the race and the trick competition. Cadence, DQM, Trackstar and MASH put on a great time. I think we gave them a warm welcoming indeed! Nubloom's just uploaded a video of freestyle tricks... Trudy's got some pics here Jack's got some pics of checkpoints here J. Martinez of Fatlace has some here eXcess has some GREAT pics here Amanda's are up here Skidknee's amazing shots of Tom are here and mine are here

Mishka in Warp Magazine

Last month, a bunch of us were invited by Mike and Greg of Mishka NYC to be in a photo shoot for the Japanese street-culture magazine, Warp. Warp wanted to see Mishka's Brooklyn crew! See if you can find me. Well, it's in the stands now, so go pick up a copy.
