Delta deck for Mekanism

So Amanda and I exchanged gifts tonight and by far my favorite is the Delta deck from Mekanism. When I saw this deck on his website a few weeks ago, my jaw dropped. I have been a fan of Delta for years and when I was in Holland in '04 I got to see his studio and a lot of his work in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Since then, I've bought a few of his shirts and his vinyl figures he did for Capsule as well. This deck will go up on the wall in my bedroom. At #48 of 100 limited pressing, It's not touching the ground at all.

Great minds think alike...

You know you've met your soulmate when you start buying each other the same thing for Christmas. My check from selling some kicks finally cleared today and after a week of watching my favorite shop in BK's online stock, I went down and copped Amanda a Schwipe hoodie. Being the only store in NYC that carries this Australian brand, I was lucky to get their only small. So all day, I sat in anticipation, wondering if Amanda would like it. We're both a huge fan of geometric shapes and bright colours so I knew she'd at least act like she loved it. Well, I gave it to her tonight because I couldn't wait anymore... She loved it and looked at it in shock, almost disbelief. After a brief moment, she left and went into the bedroom. When she returned, she had a present for me. I opened it and it was the EXACT hoodie in the men's colourway. Made me smile.

Time Consumption

Many hours later, we're finally getting somewhere. This model, while formally simple is still very complex in its construction. With random fenestration and a very rigid structural grid, it's essential that everything is thought-out and assembled appropriately. Anyway, here's a few updated renderings. These are strictly lighting investigations. I've added some tone to distinguish the rammed-earth walls and the sand. Once I get the lighting down, I'll begin to add the oxidized steel texture, glazing and other finishing touches.

What is it?

Just thought I'd post an image of a project I'm working on. I can't really tell you what it's for or where it's going because it's a competition... Here's the model in its early stage. Expect more updates within the next few days. Enjoy

Trouble and Bass

I wanna apologize to the rest of NYC who DIDN'T make it out to this party last night. This party is getting coverage in Flavorpill and with sponsors like Mishka, the T&B crew have it on lock. They were handing out their "I will bass you" shirts to everyone too. It was packed. I'm not talking, "man, there's no room to sit down" packed, I'm talking "woah, there are like 40 heads tryin to get into the joint" packed. Boogaloo was probably over its capacity last night. MAD heads crammed into this Southside bar to hear the Trouble and Bass crew drop straight heavy bass. Star Eyes, Drop the Lime, Zack Shadetek and Mathhead were slamming down grime, dubstep, anthems, two step, garage and new tracks all night. The speakers were overheating, just like all the randoms who decided to come out this month. If the crowd continues to grow exponentially like this, there may need to be a bigger venue. Yes, the Trouble and Bass crew run this city when it comes to this music. There was a garage mc from London there saying how impressed he was to hear this in America. basssssssssssssssss

SAG bags

SAG, a Japanese Messenger bag company is finally digging new roots in the US cycling market. I first saw this brand a year or so ago in a Japanese track-bike magazine. Still, to this day, it's difficult to find information on the company, but like most Japanese designers, the attention to detail and branding makes these bags a worthy competitor to such companies as Chrome, Re:load and other messenger bag manufacturers. Gentei will be carrying these bags starting January. My favorite model is the backpack!

Boogaloo's gonna bleed

Saturday night after the DJ Rupture show, we're headin to Boogaloo. Come out and party till the early AM.

DJ Rupture graces NYC with his presence...

'Nuff said.... This show will be insane. He's still, to this day, one of the most impressive DJs I've ever seen.... He lives in Brooklyn now, so I'm assuming he'll be playing more shows. Maybe even a T&B party? December 2nd Show info HERE DJ Rupture & Andy Moor (the Ex)--live duo Midnight $5 For the past 2 years, turntablist DJ /rupture and guitarist Andy Moor have been playing improvised duos. Their dynamic interactions range from delicate avant-garde soundwork to futuristic beats intersected by angular guitar. ANDY MOOR is a member of legendary band The Ex. The last time RUPTURE played upstairs at Tonic he was DJing in a band with Norah Jones. Since then he's released records on Tigerbeat6 and Soul Jazz. Expect flipped hiphop battle techniques and a disregard for convention. December 13th Show info HERE

Gentei pt. 2

So over the Holiday weekend, I went to Baltimore with Amanda. While she was working on Friday, her brother and I went to Gentei, the only streetwear / skate / track bike boutique in the 410 area. I have nothing but great things to say about the shop. Everything from their branding, to the architecture, to their selection of rare goods [Bounty Hunter, Lowrider, Garni, ect] and their service. The dudes are all cool as hell, knowledgeable and probably the least pretentious of any similar shop I've ever visited. To celebrate their one-year anniversary, they teamed up with Garni, a Japanese jewelry designer to create a limited run of skull rings. The 80 rings are all adorned with marble veins and a Gentei emblem on the side... If you're in Bmore, def stop by. I got a pair of Aloha Nike Dunks by Kicks Hawaii for retail. Cop that! They just relaunched their site, so take a peek!

Drew is nuts...

So I came across these pictures the other day. They're of my boy Drew, in all his hypebeast-angst, toasting his Staple Design Pigeons. What these pics don't show is that he skated them too and basically ruined them, or so he thought. He ended up selling all his kicks, including the Pigeons to some kid. Worth a thousand laughs. And yes, they're 100% legit, not fake.

Closer: Commonwealth vs. Kenzo Minami

Commonwealth has done it again. This time, in their collaboration with Kenzo Minami, Commonwealth has turned its space into a space filled with vector graphics. Kenzo's work is based on an intricate module of random objects meticulously tiled ad infinitum throughout the space.
Here are some shots. The first image is courtesy of Archinect. None of my pictures of the tiles came out clear enough to post.
