Costa Rica House

So here's an animation that I did a while back for our house that's being built in a remote region of Costa Rica. I recently was asked to lead a seminar on using a Mac for 3d and 2d Architectural work at the Apple store in SoHo and decided to use this project as the precedent. So here it is: a short video showing the formal qualities of the house, rendered in actual lighting and materials. The model is as accurate as our 'blueprints' so that we could use it as a problem-solving tool as well as a rather convincing piece of digital media. A little on the project itself: This project is the first of several to be undertaken for a single client on the coast of the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Inheriting an abandoned steel frame and concrete slab structure, we were asked to develop 18000 SF of indoor/outdoor residence on a jungle mountainside overlooking the bay. The primary criteria for this project were to be environmentally sensitive, technologically advanced and modernist by design. The jungle wraps the house as the house wraps a piece of the jungle. The spectacular view out to the bay merges with the infinite pool. The flexible edges of the enclosed portion of the home provide a seamless flow from inside to out. The house is entirely self-sufficient. Photovoltaic cells on the roof gather power from the sun, which is stored to run the few appliances and low-consumption lighting planned. Solar hot water panels provide domestic hot water. Maximizing cross ventilation and providing efficient solar shading has eliminated the need for air conditioning in this year-round tropical climate. These technological features, architectural planning and sensitive detailing create an indigenous yet distinctly modern piece of architecture. Enjoy _j And here are some stills...

CT House Animation... Rough

So here's an animation for the aforementioned house in CT I'm the project manager for. I used Form Z to meticulously model the house and Cinema 4D to render the animation. C4d's sky script makes it easy to simulate the lighting conditions and to analyze windows and façades. I plan on adding trees to create a better feel for the site conditions. Enjoy

WWDC 2006

Wow! So Apple's done it again. I just finished watching the WWDC video and Steve Job's has some crazy new additions to the Apple user interface in Leopard, the next release. Watch it here. Customized widgets, conference video theater and many more new add-ons will make Leopard the most advanced OS available today. Windoze won't even come close.

August is here...

So this weekend was epic for many reasons. Mike and Steph have been here all week and Jed arrived in town Thursday. We went to 3rd Ward to see Spankrock and some other acts. Oxy Cottontail and DTL were there throwin down some cuts with the guys from the BBC. It was hot, dusty, sweaty and muggy. The space at 3rd Ward is huge. I can imagine some great shows in the Fall and Winter, but right now, in the heat and humidity, it'd take a lot to get me hyped. Well, Thursday night, with Mike and Steph in town and Jed having just arrived, I figured it'd be a good opportunity to show them how us kids in Brooklyn like to throw down. Friday morning I woke up with another splitting migraine. This is the 3rd one this week. It was crippling. I hope I haven't inherited my Mom's headaches; although it seems I have. Friday, we trekked around the LES with Trevor, Jed and Amanda. Jed bought some Dunnies, we rolled to aNYthing, Tiny's, Reed Space and a bunch of other joints. Then, after walking around, having a few beers we went to see Hot Chip on the East side and met up with some people. We took it easy that night and saved up our energy for Saturday night. Saturday was a trainwreck. We woke up late and decided to roll to Jones Beach to catch some sun. After the hour drive, we arrived, soaked in 3 hours worth of sun and headed back to the city for my uncle Bruce's birthday dinner. Then we headed back to BK for the Moon Over Crooklyn party at Galapagos. We ended up getting there in perfect time to see Starkey and Drop the Lime play. Starkey's beats were straight heavy and DTL's set was mad hype. I've never seen a crowd move like that at Galapagos. The Cut Boys showed up and it was a great time. Sunday was the Pool Parties in McCarran park pool. Music sucked. It wasn't hot, so I fell asleep. Here are some pics from the weekend in chronological order. Some are by me, others are by Jed. Enjoy!

Leave it to JB

So my roomate [now and through college] is a huge news head. He constantly wears his iPod around the house listening to NPR and other news programs. Well, he's a clever dude too. One day we were listening to the Little Brother Gangster Grillz album, JB was like "Dude, does he even know what he's using as that soundbit". I had no idea either. It seems Drama is supposed to be saying "Cannon" as in a "projectile", when in reality... well just check out what he just [tried to] post[ed] on DJ Drama's Myspace page. Funny right?
