Epitome of...

Do you even have a USCF license? Have you ever raced on a velodrome? Did you ride bikes before track bikes? I wish your pretentious, hypocrite attitude would disappear.

Traitor Cycles

Really feeling this frame! It seems that Traitor Cycles has officially launched itself into the urban steel bike world. At $580ish for a frame and fork, it's going to have a pretty great run if I do say so myself.

RIP Surly Street Stomper...

Did a 180 tonight and felt a pop. Did another one and felt the bike go "limp". Got off to examine the frame. Nothing visibly wrong with it. Stepped on the non-driveside pedal and SNAP. It snapped.

Lebbeus Woods

Lebbeus Woods has been one of my favorite Architects since I first got into Architecture. His work reminds me of some parasitic intervention in a post-apocalyptic world. Aside from acadamia, Woods has received very little recognition, which is why this article in the Times caught my attention...

Gettin' my Gangsta On!

My Gansta track is getting adorned with the work of LamourSupreme and Greg Mishka this week, then it's off to the painters! Brooklyn Machine Works finally finished their design for the 50cm [approximately 58 sq] Gangsta Tracks! Step it up people. This is the future of track bike tricks!

Stop Making Sense

The city's Department of Transportation announced yesterday that it had installed nine temporary bike racks designed by musician/bike enthusiast David Byrne. The racks stand out in design and color— shiny red, black and silver— and are intended to promote bicycling, which has been a main emphasis of the current transportation commissioner, Janette Sadik-Khan. Eight of the new racks were installed in Manhattan, with the other in Brooklyn. “It was important to me that these new racks be the same thickness and material as the existing racks—to help identify them as practical bike racks and not just modern art,” Mr. Byrne said. “The locations about as perfect as one could imagine — Wall Street for the dollar sign and Bergdorf’s for the giant high heel!” Each rack has a name and a design that relates to that specific location. Appropriately named, "The Hipster" rack is on Bedford Avenue near N. 6th St. in Williamsburg. See all nine locations here.

Jeff Koons goes Razzle

Artist Jeff Koons has painted a yacht in the WWI camoflage pattern known as Razzle Dazzle. I think this particular pattern is called Penguin. Although the technology to paint in halftone wasn't available back then. Via Hypebeast. Yes Hypebeast, it's called Razzle Dazzle. Do some research!

Car Scratchers

It seems Fixie Inc is back at it with another special product for the Fixed Gear kiddies. Another way to take down those evil fascist cars [that was sarcasm, I think the idea is dumb]! If ulocks weren't enough, now you can scratch the hell out of the sidepanels of cars as you pass by. Two things that bother me: -If unplugged bars aren't bad enough, now you can impale yourself. -If you do "scratch" a car, chances are, you're going to fall off your bike... Their other products seem pretty legit though!

Machine Head

These photographs by T. Sobajima of Japanese-architect Norisada Maeda's newest built work are strikingly beautiful. By keeping the space open, the experience of the inhabitant is drawn less to the noisy field of connections at the metal panels. I typically don't enjoy seeing very pronounced hardware, but this is an exception!

Count Thy Buttons

Jen at Gnarlitude insists this is one art show not to miss, and I believe her. It will be Patrick Griffin's first solo show and the concept sounds pretty damn amazing. Apparently there will be a giant wall resembling a leather jacket with dozens of oversized buttons on them— pretty cool right? If art isn't enough to drag your butt outside, maybe you'll be into the special performance by TV Baby (members of A.R.E. Weapons). It all goes down this Thursday night from 6-9pm at the Journal Gallery in WillyB. 168 N 1st St.

High Speed Looks

Fashion regularly pulls influences from all sorts of pieces of pop culture from music to architecture, food to television. Get ready for a collaboration that goes beyond the mainstream and into a territory usually reserved for die-hard hobbyists. Swedish fashion and denim brand Acne has partnered with Italian bike manufacturer Bianchi to create a slick, streamlined collection that is both fashionable and functional. Head designer Jonny Johansson says they tried to standardize the garments and remove all "unnecessary detail." And that he did, without sacrificing Acne's signature style. The collection will be in Acne stores starting in the spring, where you can also purchase the bike pictured below.
