A little catch-up - Sunday Skate BMX

So while we were in Buffalo, I got the chance to go to Sunday Skate BMX - which is Dana's boyfriend JP's shop. JP and JIM run this place and I have to say I was really impressed with all the work these guys put into it.
The storefront was an old bakery and was in a really dodgy part of Buffalo [yes, there are dodgy parts of Buffalo]. JP and his boys ripped it all out and refinished everything.
The result is a really esquisite piece of Buffalo's skate community [the only one in fact!].

A little catch-up - Buffalo and Toronto

So, it's been a crazy last few weeks. Amanda and I have been traveling a lot and hitting up some pretty great cities. Our schedules have been so busy that I really havent had a chance to unload my camera and upload some shots we've been taking along the way. These next few posts are going to be part of the "A little catch-up" series documenting these trips. First up was Buffalo and Toronto. Amanda has friends there who run a local skateshop and we decided to visit them and spend the day in Toronto shopping. Over the course of a few days, I got to meet some cool cats, cop some nice clothes and have a great time away from the City. Here are some pics.

Trevor and the Steak knife

So after Trevor wrecked Pete's bike, he had a HUGE knot on his elbow filled with puss. How did he solve the issue at hand?...

SBTG Lacelocks

Bling for ya strings... Got mine in today. The gold looks hot in the new SBTG SB's I got last month. I can't get over how nice the materials are on these shoes. The gold swoosh is now accented by the gold lacelock. I dropped my Hawaii SB's red laces in as well. The attention to detail found is SBTG's work is finally carried over to a mass-produced, yet limited shoe.

Costa Rica House

So here's an animation that I did a while back for our house that's being built in a remote region of Costa Rica. I recently was asked to lead a seminar on using a Mac for 3d and 2d Architectural work at the Apple store in SoHo and decided to use this project as the precedent. So here it is: a short video showing the formal qualities of the house, rendered in actual lighting and materials. The model is as accurate as our 'blueprints' so that we could use it as a problem-solving tool as well as a rather convincing piece of digital media. A little on the project itself: This project is the first of several to be undertaken for a single client on the coast of the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Inheriting an abandoned steel frame and concrete slab structure, we were asked to develop 18000 SF of indoor/outdoor residence on a jungle mountainside overlooking the bay. The primary criteria for this project were to be environmentally sensitive, technologically advanced and modernist by design. The jungle wraps the house as the house wraps a piece of the jungle. The spectacular view out to the bay merges with the infinite pool. The flexible edges of the enclosed portion of the home provide a seamless flow from inside to out. The house is entirely self-sufficient. Photovoltaic cells on the roof gather power from the sun, which is stored to run the few appliances and low-consumption lighting planned. Solar hot water panels provide domestic hot water. Maximizing cross ventilation and providing efficient solar shading has eliminated the need for air conditioning in this year-round tropical climate. These technological features, architectural planning and sensitive detailing create an indigenous yet distinctly modern piece of architecture. Enjoy _j And here are some stills...
