I don't think the sport is ready for freestyle competitions yet. What's better, a keo spin or a grind? Neither, they're not quantifiable. On what terrain will the competition be? Some people want flat ground, others want ramps. None of this makes sense.
Sorry to be debbie downer.
mosher we've had comps before and everyone has fun. there are going to be so many people in town it will be a great time. who cares what people want? they are going to have to work with what they have.
Tom,
You've come a bit late into this. I hold the Peel Sessions every week here in Brooklyn. After a few weeks of holding it, we threw a competition. It was really successful.
here's a recap
The freestyle is mostly flatland, although you can use anything in the environment to your advantage. It's judged by a series of co-riders and cyclists based on originality, execution and finally, crowd involvement. The crowd also "cheers" at the end for their favorites. Wilis killed it last time because he landed tricks that got the crowd stoked and he had "no dabs"...
I also make sure to hold events like Sprints and Skids which are very easy to judge. At the end of the night, the best scoring riders overall get "prizes".
Hope this clears it up. Are you coming into town for the Film Fest? We'd love to have you...
Guys, give him a break. You have to remember Tom's from Canada. The news gets up there a little bit slower than the rest of the world.
I was about to say that I am thinking of coming down to NYC for the premiere, but, fuck it, I am coming!
I'd really love to meet you all and talk about all this further.
Oh. and I knew the comps had gone on, but my opinion of it being kinda early still held true.
Um, anyone have room for a Tom to crash? I can probably find something with a different crowd if not, but ideally I'd like to be with bike people.
hahaha. oh tom. Let's not continue this conversation any more! People like to have fun on their bikes. Competitions are a good way to basically do that.
I would say that you could stay with me but I have a full house already...
Prolly, perhaps my aversion to comps is the fact that all I wanna do is have fun!
I had my best flatground session of my life last night, I am really pumped to come visit NYC!
So, I should find my own housing then?
